Connecting the Limit Switches to the JK02 Breakout board.

The function of Limit Switches is to signal your CNC software when an axis has come to or near its limit of travel. They work by being put in such a position that when an axis is near the end of it's travel it will come in contact with it. This will complete (or break) a circuit that is wired back to the JK02M  Breakout board which in turn sends a signal to you controller software (Mach3 etc). The software will the register a limit has been reached and bring all of your CNC  components to a complete stop.

The JK02M Breakout board supplied in your kit as facilities for four sets of limits to be wired, X, Y, Z and A. These instructions will cover how to connect your wired Limit Switches to the JK02-M Breakout Board.

 

 

 

Warnings

AC Mains Power can kill or seriously injure you and those around you

DO NOT plug in your equipment while you are working on it

Never add or remove wires from/to your Breakout Board while it is powered up as it may permanently damage it

Never place your hand in live equipment that contains un-insulated or bare AC terminals and wires.

3 x Twisted Pair Wiring set (or Additional Wire Set optional)

Qty? x Meter 2 pair (2 wires run together) wire sufficient to run from the JK02-M Breakout board to the Limit Switches. During the "Wiring Steppes" instructions it was suggested you could run 6 core cable, the remaining 2 cores will now be used. If you did not run 6 core cable you will need to source some 2 core cable. Ethernet/Network cable is ideal and cost effective.

4 x Wire hold downs or clips to hold the wire in place at the enclosure end of the cable.

Assembly/Installation process

These instructions will cover wiring the JK02-M Breakout Board to the wired Limit Switches on your CNC Machine. Positions of parts and lengths of wires  used are for instruction only and may vary from your actual setup and you will have to interpret/vary these instructions to meet your own needs. All parts and wiring from previous instructions have been omitted in an effort not to over complicate the images.

 

Wiring Limit Switches at the JK02-M Breakout Board

The best wire for this task is the twisted pair in your kit, however you may have already used a different wiring option to wire your limit switches. Please interpret and vary these instructions to meet the wiring method/types you have used.

 

 

 

Wiring the Z Axis Limit switches to the JK02 Breakout Board

During the instructions for wiring the Limit Switches at the machine end a Brown wire was used for positive and a White wire was used for negative. If you have used a different set of wire colours please adjust these instructions accordingly. You may have also terminated your wiring at a terminal block or some other form of connector or plug, these instructions will pick up at the wires arriving at the JK02 Breakout board.

 

Running the Z Axis Limit switch wires to the JK02 Breakout board

Locate the "Z-LIM" (Z axis limit) terminal block on the JK02-M Breakout Board, this is item "4" from the parts overview.

Run the Brown and White pair of wires to the Z Axis Limit in terminals (labeled "Z-LIM" on the JK02). The Brown "Positive" wire from the Limit Switch will run to "Z-LIM"+ (Left terminal) on the JK02. The White wire from the Limit Switch will run to "Z-LIM"- (Right terminal) on the JK02.

 

Leave about 6mm of additional wire and cut. Strip the wire back about 4mm and twist the loose fibers together.

 

Connecting the wires to the JK02 Breakout board

Loosen off the 2 terminals on the "Z-LIM" terminal block on the JK02. Insert the Brown wire into Z-LIM+ (Left) terminal.

 

Now insert the White wire into Z-LIM- (Right) terminal and tighten both terminals.

The Z axis Limit Switches are now wired to the JK02-M Breakout board.

 

 

Wiring the Y Axis Limit switches to the JK02 Breakout Board

To wire the Y axis limit switches to the JK02 Breakout board follow the previous procedure: Locate the "Y-LIM" (Y axis limit) terminal block (item "5" from the parts overview), Run the Blue and White pair of wires (or the set of colures you have used for Y) to the Y Axis Limit in terminals (labeled "Y-LIM" on the JK02). Blue to "Positive" (Left terminal) an White to "Y-LIM"- (Right terminal) on the JK02. Leave about 6mm of additional wire and cut. Strip the wire back about 4mm and twist the loose fibers together.


Connecting the wires to the JK02 Breakout board

Loosen off the 2 terminals on the "Y-LIM" terminal block on the JK02. Insert the Blue wire into Y-LIM+ (Left) terminal and insert the White wire into Y-LIM- (Right) terminal and tighten both terminals.

The Y axis Limit Switches are now wired to the JK02-M Breakout board.

 

 

Wiring the X Axis Limit switches to the JK02 Breakout Board

To wire the X axis limit switches to the JK02 Breakout board follow the previous procedure: Locate the "X-LIM" (X axis limit) terminal block (item "6" from the parts overview), Run the Green and White pair of wires (or the set of colures you have used for X) to the X Axis Limit in terminals (labeled "X-LIM" on the JK02). Green to "Positive" (Left terminal) an White to "X-LIM"- (Right terminal) on the JK02. Leave about 6mm of additional wire and cut. Strip the wire back about 4mm and twist the loose fibers together.


Connecting the wires to the JK02 Breakout board

Loosen off the 2 terminals on the "X-LIM" terminal block on the JK02. Insert the Green wire into X-LIM+ (Left) terminal and insert the White wire into X-LIM- (Right) terminal and tighten both terminals.

The X axis Limit Switches are now wired to the JK02-M Breakout board.

 

 

 

Wiring the A Axis Limit switches to the JK02 Breakout Board

To wire the A axis limit switches to the JK02 Breakout board follow the previous procedure: Locate the "A-LIM" (A axis limit) terminal block (item "3" from the parts overview), Run the Yellow and White pair of wires (or the set of colures you have used for A) to the A Axis Limit in terminals (labeled "A-LIM" on the JK02). Yellow to "Positive" (Left terminal) an White to "A-LIM"- (Right terminal) on the JK02. Leave about 6mm of additional wire and cut. Strip the wire back about 4mm and twist the loose fibers together.


Connecting the wires to the JK02 Breakout board

Loosen off the 2 terminals on the "A-LIM" terminal block on the JK02. Insert the Yellow wire into A-LIM+ (Left) terminal and insert the White wire into A-LIM- (Right) terminal and tighten both terminals.

The A axis Limit Switches are now wired to the JK02-M Breakout board.

 

 

 

Testing

Prior to testing the following instructions will need to be completed:

Configuring JK02-M5  Pins, Ports and onboard Relay

And

JK02-M5 Emergency stop button and Limit switches (TBA)
